3 Signs that Your Gaming PC is in Urgent Need of an Upgrade

If you have an older computer that is underperforming but don’t have the money to buy a new machine, then you could always make some upgrades instead. Depending on the root of the issue and the parts that need to be replaced, you could enjoy a much faster and much more powerful machine for a few dollars. The issue, however, is that a lot of people don’t know when it’s time to upgrade or what component is causing issues. Let’s take a look at a few signs that your gaming PC is in urgent need of an upgrade.

You Can’t Run the Latest Games

Few things can be as frustrating to a gamer as trying to install a game only to find out that your machine doesn’t meet the minimum GPU requirements. Or that you don’t have enough memory for the game. If this happened to you a couple of times and gaming is important to you, then you will have no choice but to make an upgrade.

Bad Framerates and Choppy Gameplay

There are other cases where you’ll be able to run games, but you’ll notice framerate issues or pauses during games. This isn’t normal and is usually a sign that there’s something wrong with the graphics card, RAM, or storage.

Some people think that storage doesn’t affect the gaming experience, but they’re wrong. Slow storage can cause things like “hitching” in open-world games, among others, where the game has to freeze to pull information from the drive. If you’ve experienced this a few times, then you may have to invest in a better gaming PC hard drive.

If the issue is specifically with your frame rates, then you will need to look at your RAM and the graphics card specifically. If you have an entry-level Nvidia 1600 series card, for instance, then you may have your culprit right there. While these will allow you to play simple-looking MOBAs with little to no issues, you can’t expect them to run high-end FPS games properly. So, you will need to upgrade to at least a 3000 series card in that case. As far as RAM goes, you should at least have a 16-gb DDR4 stick in there. Anything lower than that will cause issues.

Your Computer Makes Strange Noises

A modern PC shouldn’t make too many noises. If you notice any strange sounds coming from the machine, then this is one of the clearest signs that you need an upgrade. This is what usually happens with machines that have mechanical hard drives. These have no place in modern computing, and if your computer has one, then you might have to look at more current options.

If your computer takes too long to boot, then this is a sign that there might be something wrong with your storage or your OS. If you have a hard disk drive and you hear it struggling when you boot the computer, it’s time to replace it. If you have an SSD, then it might not be fast enough or have a physical issue. In either case, you might have to look for a replacement.

These are all clear signs that your PC might need an upgrade right now. A sub-par machine could be affecting your gameplay negatively.
